Privacy Policy

OnceHere is a community project. We respect your privacy and collect only what we need to make the platform work. Here's what that means in practice.

What We Collect

When you sign in

We store your name, email address, and profile photo from your Google account (or just your email if you use magic link login). This is used to identify your uploads and send you notifications you've opted into.

When you upload a photo

We store the image, the address and location you provide, the year or decade, your description, and source information. Uploaded images are stored in Supabase Storage and served via their CDN.

When you browse

We use Vercel Analytics to understand general usage patterns (page views, device types). This is privacy-focused analytics that does not use cookies and does not track individual users across sessions.

When you explore an address

Addresses you search are sent to Google's Geocoding API to convert them to coordinates. We cache location enrichment data (public archive results, OpenStreetMap data, census information) by coordinates so we don't need to re-fetch it on every visit. This data is publicly available information, not personal data.

What We Don't Do

• We don't sell your data to anyone
• We don't use tracking cookies
• We don't show ads
• We don't share your email with third parties
• We don't collect data beyond what's described above

Third-Party Services

OnceHere uses the following services:

• Supabase — authentication, database, and file storage
• Vercel — hosting and privacy-focused analytics
• Google — OAuth sign-in and address geocoding
• Resend — transactional email (notifications only)

Each of these services has their own privacy policies. We've chosen them because they have strong privacy practices.

Your Photos Are Yours

You can delete any photo you've uploaded at any time from your My Photos page. Deleting a photo removes it from public view and from our storage.

Email Notifications

We may send you emails when someone comments on your photo or when your upload is approved. You can turn these off anytime in Settings. We will never send marketing emails.

Data Deletion

If you want your account and all associated data deleted, email us at hello@oncehere.place and we'll take care of it.

Changes

If we make meaningful changes to this policy, we'll update the date at the top. For significant changes, we'll make reasonable efforts to notify users.
